I grew up with my Mother in a very frugal lifestyle, which compelled me to become very creative in re-purposing things – furniture, fabric, and accessories. I pride myself on this; why spend money if it is not necessary and why add to our landfills with things that can re-purposed?
I always have budget in mind and know that it isn’t necessary to break the bank to get an incredibly well-designed and impactful space. I aim use a mix of the client’s personal items, re-purposed items, flea market finds, and new purchases. The trick to marrying all these items and styles flawlessly is to have a few threads of continuity through colour, line, texture, pattern, and materials. I am also very mindful of how we walk through a space and design with this in mind every step of the way. I’ve seen so many rooms that look great, but they don’t function properly for the people living in them.
I am not a designer that you would ever walk into a space and say “This is Bo’s signature look!” That is not my goal. My goal is to honour each client’s taste and character to make their space look like they did it themselves. I am merely a creative conduit for how to get there.
